Happenings

Today, Kim and I tried to get more of our apartment unpacked. Despite all of our efforts to get rid of/give away as many of our possessions as possible, we still have the occasional exchange:

"What's this thing?"

"I don't know. Isn't it yours?"

"No idea. Do you want to keep it?"

"Not really. Throw it in the box with all the other stuff."

We've found enough such stuff - weird tools, nick-nacks, papers, etc. to fill a few boxes. You wonder how this stuff ever made it to Indiana in the first place.

We were driving around town today, first to go to the Best Buy, and then to a pet store that has holdable guinea pigs. The pet store had a cute, all-white pig whose owner had dropped it off, since they no longer wanted it. It was really cute, and gigantic. Kim spent about 30 minutes holding it at which point the pet store owner started feeling guilty about the state of the pig's cage, and cleaned it. They said we could take the cage and everything free, but our University housing allows us only "non-carnivorous fresh water fish" so we had to leave it behind.

On the way back, we were looking for a mail box into which we could place our sizable stack of correspondence. We were unsuccessful for some time, but kept seeing the postal employees making their rounds. So, we decided to just pull over and hand them our letters. The mailwoman was caught by surprise, and looked at us oddly, but she nevertheless took our mail, and we went on our way.

Now that we no longer get the University's free meal plan, we've been getting back in the habit of cooking our own food. One secret that seems to work wonders on everything: marinade.
