Icemail + Me = Us

Oct. 17, 2001

I've been frustrated but the lack of innovation and quality of available email clients. Thus, I resolved to possibly write my own. After all, how hard can an email client be? First, however, I went searching for an open source Java email client that I could use as a base. Luckily, I found the sort of thing I was looking for. IceMail supports many of the more advanced email features - all those things I'd have to learn before I could code them myself. However, the interface is atrocious. But again, that's exactly the area where I wanted to see innovation. Thus, Icemail and I were a perfect match, and I signed up to work on it.

In other news, Kim is heading to Florida for a week, since she has a "Fall Break." I'm going to miss her, but she will undoubtedly have a great time visiting the G-ville crowd. Tomorrow I have to go to work early so as to get out in time to drive her to O'Hare. I've never seen busiest airport in the world, but I guess tomorrow I'll have the chance. Seriously, Chicago is the coolest city I've ever seen.

Finally, there was recently an epidemic of inane, Full House-oriented comments throughout the DoP community. Many members have either removed their commenting systems or added authentication measures in order to stem the tide. On the other hand, I run my site with a strict "no censorship" policy, so I'm not going to do anything about it. If people want to write crap like that and demonstrate their idiocy, I encourage them to do so. Idiocy is only obvious when it is unstifled.
