Kulak
Oct. 8, 2001
Today at work, I was introduced to a new card game called "Kulak." The whole point of the game is to use the cards that are not used in Euchre. I've never played Euchre, but what this amounts to is that you are playing with the cards 2-8 and the jokers. My partner and I ended up winning 1 of 2 games.
I bought a copy of Time magazine yesterday. One of maybe three times I ever bought one. Usually I am annoyed by their commentary so don't by them, but this one had lots of information about Afghanistan history and a collection of heart-wrenching stories from survivors of the World Trade Center. I felt a little silly buying it, but hey, I cope with things by dropping my educational level a few notches.
Seriously. I find that the way I usually deal with stress is by dumbing myself down. I stop engaging in those sorts of activities deemed intellectual such as reading and thinking critically. I've even been tempted to start watching TV again. I haven't had any patience for video games that require thinking, and instead have been playing platform jumpers and racing games. Hopefully I'll snap out of this slump soon and get myself back into some more worthwhile pursuits. If this sort of thing happens to people on a mass scale, I can see the effect morale would have on worker productivity and army effectiveness.
