Land of Nordock

April 20, 2004

I've been playing Neverwinter Nights recently on a server I found through SomethingAwful. It runs a module called "Nordock" which is enormous. Since I've already completed the original game and its expansions, I'm squeezing copious extra fun out of my gaming purchase. Neverwinter Nights is a contender for the single PC game I've played the most, along with Civilization 2, Alpha Centauri, Quake 2, and X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. Each of those games sucked away countless hours of my life, completely amusing me the entire time.

Another key element in NWN's success in my house is its support for the Linux operating system. Few big-budget commercial games work in Linux, and those that do tend to be first-person shooters. While I love a good FPS, they have limited replay value for me since my network connection isn't reliable enough for decent Internet play. Thus, since NWN works without a reboot into windows, I play it a lot.
