Last Day
Aug. 16, 2002
Today is my last day here at Press Ganey. Since I don't think I've ever talked about my co-workers on this site, I decided I should do so now, before I forget things.
Shawn Kohn: I work more with Shawn than anyone else at the company. He's the other GUI programmer and, as his daughter says, "the best Internet Developer!" In his spare time, Shawn is a volunteer police officer in Elkhart county. He also runs a web-hosting company through rackshack.net called iKohn. Shawn's a funny guy, although he might offend you if you can't take a little teasing now and then. Working with him has been an enjoyable experience.
Mike Harding: My immediate supervisor, Mike is in charge of the Internet Development team. He gets in at a ridiculous time of the day (usually around 5am or so) since he takes classes in the evenings. He enjoys nearly every geek-related activity, including video games and d&d. As a team leader he is casual, laid-back, and knowledgable, which makes him the ideal manager in my book.
Joel Schlundt: Joel is another member of the Internet development team. His work usually involves CGIs and art. As a fellow /. reader, Joel enjoys talking about linux and other open source. Also, Joel is an avid gamer, both console and PC. Since Joel's CGI are the primary interface for my part of the application, I spent a lot of time back and forth to his office to ask questions. He also did his best to answer them.
Grieg Wise: Grieg is the manager of the Database group. I rarely had any reason to stop by his office, but I did anyway, since he's such a nice guy. Grieg loves games of all kinds, but mostly d&d, fantasy sports, and Durak. Grieg has a great sense of humor and a genuine love of New China's lunch buffet.
Casey Buczkowski: If I had to pick one person that represents a Hoosier in my mind, it would have to be Casey. My dad is from Indiana and used to describe the various qualities of the typical Indiana resident. Casey is in two separate bowling leagues, watches a lot of sports, and enjoys pork tenderloin sandwiches. He started here at Press Ganey a few months before me, also fresh out of college (IUSB). His cube was right next to mine, so he got to enjoy the many idiosyncracies of my musical taste. Casey works under Grieg on database stuff and was always the best tester of my code. A nice guy and a lot of fun to be around.
Luke Burke: Luke is a Notre Dame grad who was recently hired to replace me. He's a little on the quiet side, but a nice guy. He picked up Durak faster than anyone else I've ever taught. I'm sure he'll get along with everyone here as easily as I did.
Jon Zook: Jon is the manager of the EDA's. I'm still not really sure what his department does, but I'm sure they do it well with Jon in charge. Jon started his own LAN gaming center called Lan Lizards, at which, if I had the money, I would spend many an evening playing games. Despite being the manager of a department downstairs, he still spends a lot of time with us, since his boss is on our floor and he's good friends with Mike. Like everyone here, Jon is a lot of fun and has an extremely good sense of humor. Like Grieg, he also enjoys the weekly trip to New China.
Mickey Standiford: Mickey has been with Press Ganey since he was in high school. He's also held a number of different positions in that time. When I started, he was the network administrator, but when I left, he had moved into the Internet group as a PHP programmer and general web monkey. Mickey's also a lot of fun at lunch and a formidable Durak opponent.
